The History

Château Te Kamo, located 6 km from Whangarei town basin, was the fulfilled dream of Northland couple Stuart and Nanette, aided by their close friend Ben.

Stuart and Nanette purchased 10 acres and a two bedroom home in 1992. Three children later, extensions began.

Travelling around America in Europe, Stuart and Nanette were captivated by the architecture and decor of the stately homes they visited.

They brought back raw materials and artefacts. Nanette’s skills created comfortable spaces and elegant furniture.

Stuart, a Master Craftsman in Woodwork and Ben a Master Builder, built the solid concrete exterior before moving on to the interior. Spanish marble was imported for the staircase, Australian Jarrah was used for the impressive bannisters, American White Oak for the solid internal doors, Mahogany for the Library.

Stuart, Nanette and Ben’s commitment to a dream that lasted 30 plus years made many Whangarei residents feel affection for and pride in this magnificent building in Whangarei now passed to the Château’s new owner, Kate.
